March historically was the start of the New Year until the mid-1700s. Although I’m a creature of habit and celebrate the start of the New Year on January 1st each year, Spring brings hope for the new and exciting with overcast days vanishing into sunny and wonderful adventures. Perhaps it is time to paint a little color into our lives and today is a good day to do just that. Let’s get on the proverbial bike and ride into the color of the new life ahead of us.
My niece and a beta reader of our books shared Sophia Loren’s quote with me when I was quite low and perhaps feeling a little sorry for myself. It seemed I needed to cast off the old thoughts and move to new hope of life.
“When I got enough confidence, the stage was gone.
When I was sure of losing, I won.
When I needed people the most, they left me.
When I learnt to dry my tears, I found a shoulder to cry on.
When I mastered the skill of hating, someone started loving me from the core of the heart.
And, while waiting for light for hours, when I fell asleep, the sun came out.
That’s Life!!
No matter what you plan, you never know what life has planned for you.
Success introduces you to the world. But failure introduces the world to you.
Always be happy!!
Often when we lose hope and think this is the end,
God smiles from above and says, Relax Sweetheart; It’s just a bend, not the end!”
(Sophia Loren)
Perhaps it is time to find the bend in your road as I needed to find mine. For me it was to start writing again and relish the sense of creation with the words that flow on to the page. Finding that flow can be heartening; it comes often in the least expected ways in life. One morning I awoke with no sense of direction and then I saw a neighboring field of spectacular wild flowers from my porch. Sometimes the most fleeting moments are retained the longest in our memories to call on when times are low and we are working to recreate ourselves.
What is the pleasant surprise that puts the smile on your face again and a ray of hope in your future? Opportunities come at the most unexpected times and intrigue us into exploration for fun and hope, shattering the gray of winter and the depressing ideas of things over which we have no control.
Find the beauty of each moment and cherish those with whom you are with, as life can take sudden turns. Along the way there are breathtaking views to enjoy.
Have a wonderful March, filled with enthralling adventures.
